The Black Cow

Taste.
By Sandra Marie Parsons

The Black Cow Burger Bar-
Burgers... Beer…Wine...Chocolate.  That sure grabbed my attention while walking by the new restaurant on Avenue A in Turners Falls.  With my interest piqued I ventured inside to find a much nicer than expected décor. The decor is mostly black, with touches of white and green accents.  The bar is brightly lit with a marble looking countertop and fresh flowers.  The experienced staff is eager to serve you.  The Black Cow has been open for about three weeks as of today and was busy with families of all ages.  It is a casual atmosphere that you makes you feel very comfortable.
We were told to seat ourselves to a table of our liking; we chose one of the few booths that remained.  The Black Cow serves a full range of beer and wine.  I tried the holiday stout which was very tasty, which was a change for me, as I tend to stick with wine.

I ordered from the burger bar. First you choose your meat with a choice of Angus beef, turkey, veggie or salmon. Next there are at least ten choices of sauces, and then comes the decisions of cheese and toppings.  So many choices what to do, what to do?  Should I go with cheddar, blue cheese, ooh a fried egg perhaps? My creation: Blue cheese, garlic aioli, caramelized onions with a slice of tomato topped on Angus beef burger.  A great decision! This burger is cooked to perfection, a little charcoaled on the outside, yet still juicy and thick.  The creaminess of the blue cheese with the sweet yet tanginess from the caramelized onions are doing a little happy tango dance on my taste buds.  I am in burger heaven! I ordered the Cajun fries as a side, they are really flavorful, but a bit of a spicy bite to them.  The french fries are all hand cut into shoestring fries.  I can’t wait to try the Mac Bar (macaroni and cheese) with the same choice of toppings as the burger bar, on my next visit.
There are also many burgers to choose from on the menu, if you are not in a creative mood.  The most popular burger is Pete the Builder which is an Angus burger piled high with pastrami, double Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato and garlic aioli.  A second favorite of customers is the Sexy Salmon, grilled salmon filet, topped with a balsamic glaze, baby arugula and house pickled red onion.

Ready for more, I order the Carmel and Sea Salt Sundae, delicious!  The vanilla ice cream is covered with gooey caramel sauce then sprinkled with just a hint of salt, finally topped with whip cream and nuts.  With a sweet and salty desert you cannot go wrong.  The Brownie Sundae is the most popular choice among the customers.  The desert menu changes frequently with the demand of customers.
The staff is right on with customer service, my waitress made sure my drinks were full, my burger was cooked to my liking, and they checked on me twice to sure I was satisfied with everything.   I plan to frequent here often.

I rate The Black Cow 4 forks
