Mashed Rutabega with Carmelized Onions

I have never been a big fan of turnips but I decided to play with them and add a little jazz to them. I really liked this recipe.


2 cups of peeled and chopped Rutabega or yellow turnip
1 red onion sliced in half moons
1 shallot sliced
1 tbsp butter
1/2 ts sugar
1/2 C milk

Cover turnip with water in a sauce pan and boil till tender
in a skillet melt butter and add onions, saute on med till tender and brown. Add salt and cook 5 more minutes.
When the turnip is tender drain and mash, add milk, onions. Mash all together salt and peper to taste.
