My son is going to Norwich University in Northfield, VT. On the way home my mother and I stopped at The Square Biscuit restaurant, it was mostly southern comfort food. A very cozy and friendly place in the downtown Northfield area. First off they bring your sweet tea or other cold beverages in a mason jar, couldn't get much more country or southern than that. For an appetizer we had fried green tomatoes, I have tried to make these before after seeing the movie and did not care for them. However, these were very good. My guess on how they were made is dipped maybe in buttermilk then breaded with cornmeal, fried in a pan with bacon grease. I could taste flavors of bacon in it so that is why I think that. So good, plus they had a side of a creamy dipping sauce that tasted like mayo mixed with thousand island dressing with maybe chili powder on top. I will have to try it and see if I am right.
I had fried chicken and mashed potatoes and mac and cheese. My Mother had chicken fried steak so yummy. Surprisingly we did not see one biscuit..... round or square.
